Injured monkey with mouth foam flees up tree in Sham Shui Po
A wild monkey foaming at the mouth and with severe wounds was spotted near a gas station in Sham Shui Po early Sunday. SPCA officers arrived two hours later but the animal escaped up a tree and disappeared.
A wild monkey with foam coming from its mouth was seen near a gas station in Sham Shui Po early on Sunday, prompting two passersby to alert police and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).
The incident happened around 1am on Tai Po Road. The passersby separately reported the animal, which appeared to be in distress on a slope close to the gas station.
SPCA officers arrived at the scene around 3am, but the startled monkey fled up a tree and vanished before they could catch it, according to reports.
The monkey was said to have suffered serious injuries to its buttocks, which were bleeding and had exposed bone. The wounds may have been caused by an attack from another animal.
The SPCA confirmed to Sing Tao Daily, the sister publication of The Standard, that its officers were unable to locate or capture the animal after reaching the scene in the early hours.
