Hong Kong will safeguard core values in strategic blueprint: leader
Hong Kong leader Lee says the city will protect its core values and competitive advantages as it draws up a development blueprint, addressing global financial leaders at an investment summit.
Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee said the city will ensure its core values and competitive advantages are safeguarded as it formulates a development strategic blueprint, even as the global landscape shifts.
Speaking at the opening keynote of the International Financial Leaders Investment Summit on 3 November, Lee noted that powerful structural forces are reshaping global financial rules, with complex geopolitical changes, blockchain and tokenisation rebuilding core financial structures, and artificial intelligence boosting productivity, labour markets and competitiveness across economic sectors.
Lee said Hong Kong is working with global investors and economies to jointly reshape development models. Under the "one country, two systems" principle, he said, Hong Kong continues to follow the common law system, allows free flow of people, goods and capital, operates a tariff-free free market with a simple low tax system, boasts world-class professional services, and connects the vast mainland China market with international markets.
The summit, being held in Hong Kong, has attracted about 280 financial leaders from around the world, including around 120 group chairmen and chief executives.
