Hong Kong to roll out certification scheme for senior products
Hong Kong's government says a certification scheme for elderly-friendly products will be rolled out to help consumers make informed choices, as part of broader efforts to support the silver economy.
The Hong Kong government has said a certification scheme for elderly-friendly products will be rolled out to help consumers make informed choices, as part of broader efforts to support the silver economy.
Speaking at the Consumer Council's Consumer Rights Journalism Awards ceremony on 28 October, Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Michelle Lee Sze-ngar said media coverage complements the government's work in promoting the silver economy.
Lee noted that this year's top award focused on protecting consumer rights in the silver age, with media reports providing useful information for elderly people and their carers. She said the government is actively promoting silver consumption, and many silver products and services for the elderly are now available on the market.
The government is also promoting silver quality assurance, with certification schemes for elderly-friendly products being rolled out to assist consumers in making informed choices, she added.
Lee said the Consumer Council actively provides timely information to consumers through regular product tests, market surveys and research. She also announced that the council will launch a mobile app called 'Choice Info' in December, making it easier for consumers to access information.
