The Hong Kong government said on Monday it will keep a cross-department command centre at the Huanggang border checkpoint operating continuously from Friday to Sunday to cope with expected cross-border vehicle and passenger traffic peaks caused by Halloween and a major local concert.
The command centre will monitor passenger and vehicle flows in real time and, ahead of peak crossing times, will open all vehicle inspection lanes, self-service channels and manual counters early, the government said. Additional police and staff will be deployed on the L1 and L1M levels to assist with traffic diversion, ensuring efficient and smooth clearance for vehicles and accompanying passengers.
Police will activate contingency plans based on traffic conditions, opening vehicle buffer zones to divert cross-border buses, private cars and taxis to speed up the turnover of various vehicle types. The Transport and Logistics Bureau and the Transport Department will continue to coordinate closely with public transport operators to flexibly increase service frequencies according to passenger flow. The Security Bureau will continue to publish the latest waiting times through the "Boundary Crossing Platform" mobile application.
Regarding overall clearance arrangements at all land border checkpoints, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government said it will maintain close communication with Shenzhen authorities, closely monitor cross-border passenger and vehicle flows, and discuss appropriate measures in a timely manner to ensure orderly clearance for travellers and vehicles.
The government reiterated that if cross-border private cars are used for illegal hire or reward-carrying services, the vehicle's cross-border permit may be revoked to enhance deterrence.
