Hong Kong to hold official ceremony for Sun Yat-sen's 160th birthday

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government will hold an official ceremony on 12 November 2026 at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Park to mark the 160th anniversary of the birth of Dr Sun Yat-sen, the government announced on 16 October.

Dr Sun is described in the government announcement as a great national hero, a great patriot and a great pioneer of China's democratic revolution. The ceremony is intended to honour his contributions to national independence, social progress and the well-being of the people.

Hongkong Post will issue a set of commemorative stamps on the same day to mark the anniversary. Government departments and civic organisations will also hold a series of events from October, including exhibitions, lectures, guided tours, film screenings, student and youth exchange trips to mainland China, local heritage walks and parent-child quiz competitions.

The activities are designed to help the public learn about Dr Sun's life and achievements from multiple perspectives, the announcement said.

Details of the events have been uploaded to a dedicated webpage set up on the Sun Yat-sen Museum official website, which went live on 16 October. The public is invited to visit the webpage for further information.
