Hong Kong stocks inched up by the midday break on Wednesday, led by gains in technology shares, with the benchmark Hang Seng Index advancing 39 points, or 0.16 per cent, to 24,384 points by noon.
Half-day market turnover reached HK$86.7 billion, according to exchange data. The Hang Seng Tech Index rose by 1.61 per cent to 4,203 points at the midday close, outpacing the broader market.
On the mainland, the Shanghai Stock Exchange Composite Index edged up 0.01 per cent to 3,801 points, while the Shenzhen Stock Exchange Component Index declined 0.51 per cent to 12,290 points.
The modest gains in Hong Kong came as investors weighed regional tech momentum against mixed signals from mainland markets, where the Shenzhen benchmark slipped despite the Shanghai index holding steady.
