Hong Kong sees orderly crowds at country parks during National Day holiday

The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) said on Monday 5 October that it had stepped up management, cleaning and waste collection at campsites in Sai Kung East Country Park during the National Day golden week holiday. Additional staff were deployed for day and night patrols and stationed at the sites.

On Sunday night, there were about 130 tents at Ham Tin Wan, Sai Wan and Long Ke Wan campsites. The AFCD said the sanitary conditions and order at the three campsites were good, with no violations detected. The department said it would continue close monitoring and take enforcement action if any breaches were found.

The department added that about 1,200 people visited the Po Pin Island section of the East Dam at High Island Reservoir on Monday. It said all visitors cooperated with on-site staff instructions and entered in an orderly manner. Bookings for Tuesday were fully booked, while spaces remained available for Wednesday.

At Kiu Tsui Chau, about 1,160 people visited on Monday. The AFCD deployed staff to increase patrols along the coast and at popular snorkelling spots, where crowd order was reported as good.

The AFCD said that since the start of the National Day golden week holiday, most visitors to popular country park spots and campsites had shown self-discipline and civic-mindedness. It noted that volunteers had spontaneously cleaned up rubbish at Kiu Tsui Chau.
