Hong Kong’s Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) has announced its Winter Fun series, a programme of family-friendly theatre running from October. The line-up includes international award-winning productions and local performances.

Among the highlights is Fantasy Space, a non-verbal work by South Korea’s SSAK Creative Troupe, which won a drama award at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Using puppetry and physical theatre, it tells Korean folk tales, a two-person desert island story and a tale of a lonely girl meeting a deep-sea whale.

Australia’s Bubble Laboratory presents Space Bubble Show, a space adventure featuring bubble rockets that shoot into the air, giant bubbles that can surround several people, and a finale “million-bubble party”. The show won the Best Children’s Show award at the 2024 Sydney Fringe Festival.

Brazil’s Mischievous Troupe brings The Mischievous Four, a clown show in which four comedy masters turn the drudgery of office life into a hilarious adventure, using slapstick and physical comedy. Denmark’s Paolo Nani Theatre offers Frida’s Fantastical Journey, a one-person clown show in which the protagonist, accompanied by a hen, a cat and a magic suitcase, embarks on a quest to find a friend on a colourful, handcrafted stage.

Each international show will have extension activities such as workshops and post-show discussions. Local groups also feature: Centimetre Concept presents the cross-media children’s theatre The Little Ant’s Big Rampage, Friends of Puppetry offers the family puppet musical Gingerbread House IV: The Battle of the Mouldy Germs, and the Hong Kong Oratorio Society marks its 70th anniversary with Christmas Thanksgiving Praise.

Tickets for the Winter Fun series go on sale from Wednesday 14 October via the Cityboxx ticketing system (www.urbtix.hk) or by phone on 3166 1288. Discounts include package and family offers. For details, call 2268 7323 or visit the LCSD website. Dates, venues and prices are listed in an appendix.
