Hong Kong's New Wah Fu Estate Phase 1 to Complete Six Years Early in 2034

The Housing Authority has informed the Southern District Council of an updated timeline for the Wah Fu Estate redevelopment project. Due to the early availability of the Wah On House and Wah Lok House sites, the first phase of the new Wah Fu Estate is now expected to be completed by 2034, six years earlier than originally planned.

According to the authority's proposed development plan, Phase 1 will comprise three residential blocks ranging from 26 to 48 storeys. These will provide approximately 1,760 flats along with social welfare facilities, intended to accommodate residents from Phase 3's Wah Chui House and Wah King House. Occupancy is expected to begin in the second half of 2034.

The Phase 1 site covers about 1.5 hectares. Plans include the conservation and revitalisation of the existing Wah Fu (1) Commercial Centre and the 'Banyan Tree Head' area, transforming them into a community cultural plaza. This plaza will feature social welfare facilities, an outdoor courtyard, covered public space, and a Wah Fu history gallery.

Construction of five receiving estates under the Pokfulam South public housing development plan is proceeding on schedule. Wah Fu North Estate is due for completion by the end of this year, after which residents of Wah On House and Wah Lok House will gradually move in. Both buildings are expected to be vacated by the third quarter of 2027, allowing demolition work to commence for the new Phase 1 construction. The remaining four Pokfulam South receiving estates will be completed between 2028 and 2031.

To free up a larger site for Phase 1 development, the Housing Authority proposes realigning a section of Wah Fu Road between Wah On House and Wah Lok House. The plan is expected to be gazetted in early 2027, with construction beginning in mid-2028. The road realignment will be carried out in phases to minimise traffic disruption, with completion targeted for 2034.
