Hong Kong rates and government rent due by 30 October
Hong Kong's Rating and Valuation Department reminds property taxpayers that rates and government rent must be paid by 30 October 2026. Late payment incurs a 5 per cent surcharge, with an additional 10 per cent after six months. Various electronic payment methods are encouraged.
The Hong Kong Rating and Valuation Department has reminded property taxpayers that rates and government rent for the current quarter must be paid by 30 October 2026. The requirement applies regardless of whether a taxpayer has received or delayed receiving a notice.
Taxpayers can pay via bank auto-debit, Faster Payment System (FPS), PPS, online banking, or bank ATMs. Alternatively, they may upload an electronic cheque or electronic cashier's order to the Electronic Cheque Payment website, mail a crossed cheque to the Treasury at GPO Box 28000, Sham Shui Po Post Office (underpaid mail will not be accepted), or visit any post office or designated convenience stores (7-Eleven, OK便利店 or U購select) in person.
Those who have not received a notice can obtain a duplicate or check the amount due by visiting the Rating and Valuation Department's website, calling 2152 0111, faxing 2152 0113, or visiting its office at 15/F, Cheung Sha Wan Government Offices, 303 Cheung Sha Wan Road, Kowloon.
No rates concession applies for this quarter. The notice states the total amount payable. Late payment will incur a 5 per cent surcharge. If payment remains outstanding six months after the due date, an additional 10 per cent surcharge will be applied on the overdue amount, including the initial surcharge.
For those paying by auto-debit, the amount will be debited on 30 October 2026. Taxpayers must ensure sufficient funds in their bank account on that day until the transfer is completed.
To support environmental protection, the department encourages taxpayers to use its free electronic rates and government rent service to receive e-bills and make payments. It also recommends using auto-debit or other electronic methods such as FPS, PPS, online banking, electronic cheques, electronic cashier's orders, or bank ATMs to save queuing time. Direct debit authorisation forms can be downloaded from the department's website or obtained from its office, district offices, banks, or by calling 2152 0111.
