The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Berlin promoted the city’s green transition experience at a United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) forum in Vienna, Austria, from 28 to 30 October. The event brought together policymakers, industry leaders and urban development experts from around the world to share insights on sustainable urban development and green transition.
On 29 October (Vienna time), Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Berlin Director Wong Man-chung took part in a panel discussion. He highlighted Hong Kong’s role as a “super-connector” and “super-value-adder” under the Belt and Road Initiative. He also introduced the city’s strategy and progress towards a low-carbon economy under the Hong Kong’s Climate Action Plan 2050.
Wong said: “We have set targets to phase out coal-fired power generation by or before 2035, and to stop registering new petrol-powered private cars. These targets demonstrate Hong Kong’s determination to pursue green transition and achieve carbon neutrality. As a leading global international financial centre and international innovation and technology hub, Hong Kong’s strengths in finance and innovation can facilitate cross-sector collaboration, thereby accelerating the green transition.”
During his visit, Wong met with Li Song, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations Office at Vienna and other international organisations, as well as Wang Tao, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy in Austria. They exchanged views on strengthening cooperation between Hong Kong and Austria.
The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Berlin is the official representative of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government in commercial and other economic and trade matters in Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, the Slovak Republic, Slovenia and Switzerland.
