An anti-terrorism education exhibition opened at the Hong Kong History Museum on 24 October, with Security Bureau Director Cheung Ting-pong calling for enhanced public awareness and response capabilities. The event was attended by Police Commissioner Monday Ming and National Security Committee Secretary District Kwong, among others.
Cheung said the exhibition uses diverse visual and interactive formats to deliver anti-terrorism information to the public, aiming to comprehensively improve prevention awareness and response abilities. He stressed that terrorism knows no borders, requiring vigilance at all times and a comprehensive upgrade of Hong Kong's counter-terrorism deployment to strengthen prevention, preparedness, response and recovery capabilities.
The exhibition features pictures, text, physical objects, multimedia and interactive experiences to help the public understand terrorism, the global counter-terrorism situation and Hong Kong's anti-terrorism strategies. Cheung noted that the exhibition is placed next to the national security exhibition hall, complementing each other to help citizens understand that national security and counter-terrorism are inseparable.
Cheung reiterated several anti-terrorism messages. First, 'report suspicions'—if citizens notice suspicious individuals or matters involving terrorism, they should immediately report to police. Second, 'beware of bombs'—if suspicious items or suspected explosives are found, report to police immediately. Third, 'escape, hide, report'—in case of violent attacks, prioritise escaping via safe routes or finding shelter, then report to police when safe. Fourth, 'everyone participates'—counter-terrorism is a matter of right and wrong, and combating terrorist threats is everyone's responsibility.
The exhibition is organised by the inter-departmental counter-terrorism task force. It introduces the Hong Kong National Security Law and national security cases handled by the courts, and also displays Hong Kong's counter-terrorism strategies, anti-terrorism and counter-terrorism knowledge, bomb disposal equipment from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit and defused bombs.
