Hong Kong's Chief Secretary for Administration on 2 November opened an exhibition titled "From Revitalising China to National Rejuvenation — Sun Yat-sen Historical Exhibition" at a ceremony in the city. The event marks the 160th anniversary of the birth of Sun Yat-sen, a Chinese revolutionary leader.

Speaking at the opening, the Chief Secretary described Sun as a "great national hero, great patriot, and great pioneer of China's democratic revolution." He said Sun dedicated his life to revolution and to saving the nation and its people, showing patriotism, a commitment to public service, and an unyielding spirit. The official stressed that Sun firmly upheld national unity and opposed any actions that divided the country or its ethnic groups.

The Chief Secretary noted Hong Kong's deep historical ties to Sun's revolutionary cause. Sun studied in the city as a young man, where exposure to local society and mixed Chinese and Western cultures influenced his thinking. He made connections with like-minded individuals and used Hong Kong as a base to plan uprisings and major revolutionary activities.

The official said the exhibition is not just a historical review but a way to pass on patriotic spirit and inspire the present and future. He stated that under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party and through national effort, the blueprint Sun envisioned has been realised, and the goal of "great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation" will be achieved.

He linked the exhibition to the "first five-year plan" for Hong Kong, released in September, which aligns with national development strategy. The plan calls for deepening patriotic education, national education, national security education, and values education to cultivate a new generation that is patriotic, loves Hong Kong, and has cultural confidence and a global perspective.

The Chief Secretary said the city government and civil organisations will hold a series of commemorative events starting this month, including exhibitions, lectures, guided tours, film screenings, and exchange trips to mainland China for students and young people. He thanked the Bauhinia Culture Group for supporting the exhibition and the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall for co-organising it.
