Hong Kong names first batch of 'New Industrial Elite Enterprises'
Hong Kong has announced the first eight 'New Industrial Elite Enterprises' to accelerate the development of emerging industries. The initiative aligns with the city's first five-year plan and the 2026 policy address, aiming to nurture high-growth firms and enhance the 'Made in Hong Kong' brand.
The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government on 5 October announced the first batch of eight companies to be awarded the title of 'New Industrial Elite Enterprises'. The initiative, part of the city's first five-year plan and the 2026 Policy Address, is designed to accelerate the development of a new industrialisation system and foster leading firms in emerging and future industries.
The scheme received more than 100 nominations covering a wide range of sectors, including life and health technology, artificial intelligence and robotics, semiconductors and smart devices, digitalisation and transformation, and future and sustainable development. Also nominated were firms in traditional industries that have achieved transformation through innovation and technology, highlighting the diversity and vitality of Hong Kong's new industrialisation ecosystem.
Companies were assessed on three core criteria: research capability, growth potential, and local contribution and ecological impact. After thorough evaluation by a review committee, eight enterprises were selected for the inaugural list.
Professor Sun Dong, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, said the government places great importance on nurturing and developing local technology firms. 'The New Industrial Elite Enterprise Cultivation Scheme aims to support and cultivate a group of high-growth companies based in Hong Kong,' he said. 'Through the scheme, the government hopes to increase the brand recognition and visibility of “Made in Hong Kong” products, which will help the future development of these enterprises.'
The award ceremony for the first batch of New Industrial Elite Enterprises is expected to take place later this year.
