Hong Kong minister praises women entrepreneurs at Greater Bay Area awards

Hong Kong's Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development addressed the Greater Bay Area Outstanding Women Entrepreneur Awards 2026 on 2 November, celebrating the achievements of female business leaders. The secretary praised awardees for driving innovation, breaking new ground and expanding markets, underscoring the significant role of women in commerce.

The event, organised by the Hong Kong Small and Medium Enterprises Association and Metro Broadcast Corporation, recognises women entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds and stages of development. The secretary highlighted their contributions to entrepreneurship, corporate management and social responsibility, calling them an inspiration for women entering business.

Noting Hong Kong's new development phase, the secretary said the government released the city's first five-year plan in September 2026, aligning with national 15th Five-Year Plan priorities. The plan, she said, offers enterprises directions for discovering new markets, expanding operations and enhancing competitiveness.

This year's Policy Address proposed deepening the Mainland Enterprises Overseas Taskforce, which has helped over 300 mainland firms set up or expand in Hong Kong since its launch in 2025. The secretary encouraged local enterprises to leverage their industry experience and innovative management to partner with these firms, creating mutual opportunities for international market access.

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, she added, provides broader prospects for women entrepreneurs, with complementary advantages across cities and a large market. The government continues to support small and medium enterprises through the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau, promoting trade, market access, digital transformation and operational efficiency.

The secretary concluded by reaffirming women entrepreneurs as drivers of innovation and social progress, urging them to seize opportunities in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area to sustain economic vitality.
