Hong Kong lawmakers meet district councillors for Wan Chai and Tuen Mun

Hong Kong lawmakers met with councillors from Wan Chai and Tuen Mun district councils at the Legislative Council Complex on 23 October 2026 to exchange views on community development and issues of public concern.

In the meeting with Wan Chai District Council, lawmakers and councillors discussed leveraging the district’s commercial and tourism advantages by organising special events to attract visitors and create business opportunities. They also explored improving barrier-free facilities and organising recreational activities to support the elderly in building an age-friendly community. Upgrading existing open spaces and expanding waterfront land to provide more leisure venues with new elements were also on the agenda.

Lawmakers said they would maintain close contact with the district council and government authorities on stimulating Wan Chai’s economy, strengthening elderly services, creating a friendly living environment, and further developing the waterfront, while actively reflecting public views. The meeting was convened by Li Haoran, with 32 lawmakers in attendance, including Starry Chan, Michael Sun, and others.

In the separate meeting with Tuen Mun District Council, discussions focused on optimising transport infrastructure and introducing technology to reduce traffic congestion caused by accidents and to divert vehicles. Councillors also examined the implications of land reclamation at Lung Kwu Tan and the redevelopment of Tuen Mun West into a “Smart Green Industry Port”. Increasing community facilities, particularly sports venues and health services, was also discussed.

Lawmakers said they would follow up on Tuen Mun’s transport planning, progress on the Lung Kwu Tan reclamation and Tuen Mun West development, and the addition of community and sports facilities. They would continue to reflect public opinion through relevant committees. The meeting was convened by Holden Chow, with 33 lawmakers attending, including Chan Hung-kin, Junius Ho, and others.
