Hong Kong joins Shenzhen Reading Month for fourth consecutive year
Hong Kong is participating in the 27th Shenzhen Reading Month for the fourth straight year, featuring a kung fu exhibition, book fair, author talks and a history seminar to promote cross-border reading culture.
The 27th Shenzhen Reading Month opened on 1 November with Hong Kong taking part for the fourth consecutive year, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government announced.
Creative Industries Commissioner Lau Si-ming attended the opening ceremony of the 'Hong Kong Participation in the 27th Shenzhen Reading Month' and the 'Hong Kong Kung Fu World' themed exhibition and book fair. He said Hong Kong's continued involvement responds to the 'Shenzhen-Hong Kong Co-reading Twin Cities' consensus, aimed at building a bookish Greater Bay Area.
Lau and a Hong Kong industry delegation also attended the launch ceremony of the 27th Shenzhen Reading Month in the evening to show support for Shenzhen's promotion of a reading culture among the public.
The 'Hong Kong Kung Fu World' themed exhibition and book fair, a key event this year, centres on kung fu culture to showcase how Hong Kong preserves and innovates Chinese culture. The public can visit the free exhibition and book fair at the U Center in Shenzhen from 1 November to 22 November.
Two other activities are also being held. The 'Read Hong Kong Good Books Tour' runs from 1 November to 15 November at Fan Deng Bookstore and until 30 November at United Bookstore in Shenzhen. It will display and sell quality Hong Kong books and host eight author talks and workshops. A history seminar titled 'Greater Bay Area Historical Walk' will take place on 22 November at Shenzhen Library, discussing Lingnan culture, qiaoxiang history, Chinese martial arts heritage and urban cultural development to promote cultural exchange between Hong Kong and Shenzhen.
The Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau has been participating in Shenzhen Reading Month since 2023. Through themed exhibitions, talks and workshops, it aims to foster a reading culture. More information on Hong Kong's participation is available at participationinszrm.hk.
