Hong Kong's Immigration Department said the new Kong Sham Chung checkpoint is operating smoothly in both departure and arrival halls as it enters its second weekend since opening, with authorities expecting northbound and southbound passenger flows to gradually increase.
Immigration Department Director Alex Kwok and Deputy Director Cheng Wo-mok visited the checkpoint on 24 October to inspect the operation of newly installed e-channel registration stations and the registration process. Kwok praised frontline staff and encouraged them to continue their duties.
In a social media post, the department said a new registration station has been set up on the fifth-floor departure level to assist adults and children who have not yet used the "Hong Kong e-Channel" mobile application to register for the joint verification e-channel system. Parents can bring children aged 7 to 17 for on-site registration.
The department said it will continue to monitor passenger and vehicle flows in real time and flexibly deploy staff, maintaining close contact with the mainland checkpoint. Additional personnel will be deployed during weekends to provide guidance and assistance.
The Immigration Department urged travellers to check the latest information on different border control points via the Security Bureau's "Border Port" platform before travelling, allowing them to choose the most suitable checkpoint and reduce queuing time.
