Hong Kong football team rises to 153rd in latest FIFA rankings

The Hong Kong, China men's football team have risen three places to 153rd in the latest FIFA world rankings, the international governing body announced on Thursday.

Hong Kong, who claimed the inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup (Tier 2) at Kai Tak Sports Park last week, now have 1,035.23 ranking points. They defeated Laos, Brunei and Cambodia en route to lifting the trophy.

In the Asian confederation, Hong Kong are ranked 30th.

Spain, Argentina and France occupy the top three positions in the world, unchanged from the previous standings.

Meanwhile, the Chinese national team dropped five places to 96th in the world, following a run of one win and three defeats at the recent international football invitational tournament held in Chongqing. China are ranked 15th in Asia.

Japan remain the top-ranked Asian side, sitting 17th in the world.
