Hong Kong finds 74 more buildings with lifts lacking door frame parts, total at 152
Hong Kong's Electrical and Mechanical Services Department said 74 more private buildings have lifts installed by Taijin without door frame components, raising the total to 152. About 180 buildings remain to be inspected, with the number expected to rise.
Hong Kong's Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) has announced that, in addition to two previously reported public housing estates, 74 more private buildings have lifts installed by Taijin without door frame components, bringing the total number of affected buildings to 152.
The EMSD launched inspections of lifts installed by Taijin across the city after discovering that lifts replaced by the company lacked door frame components. The department said about 180 buildings with lifts installed by Taijin have yet to be inspected, and it expects the number of non-compliant cases to rise further.
The department will prioritise inspections of lift works carried out by Taijin, while gradually checking projects by other registered lift contractors. According to the EMSD, it has also asked all registered contractors to review similar lift works conducted over the past decade.
