The 'Fishing, Farming and Nature Chill Fun' expo opened on 10 October in Hong Kong, showcasing the diversity of local leisure agriculture and eco-tourism. Secretary for Environment and Ecology Tse Chun-yuen said at the opening ceremony that the expo would not only raise public awareness and interest in these sectors, but also help farmers and fishermen broaden their income sources, promoting the sustainable development of Hong Kong's fishing and farming industries.
The expo brings together for the first time fishing, farming and nature attractions from across the city, covering food, recreation, shopping and education. It aims to introduce lesser-known but worthwhile destinations to the public, encouraging more visits and experience of leisure farming and fishing activities.
Alongside the expo, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) launched a new website, 'Enjoy Leisure AFCD' (enjoyleisure.afcd.gov.hk), which provides integrated information on leisure farming and fishing sites and natural attractions across Hong Kong, including country parks, marine parks, geoparks, Hong Kong Wetland Park and the Long Valley Nature Park. The site offers details on activities, locations, transport, opening hours and contact methods, making it easier for residents and tourists to plan in-depth local tours.
The two-day expo runs from 12:00 to 19:00 on 10 and 11 October, with free admission. Special lectures require no prior registration, while workshops and guided tours have on-site sign-up on a first-come, first-served basis. Activity details and schedules are available on the AFCD website.
Promoting leisure farming and fishing is a key direction of the Sustainable Development Blueprint for Agriculture and Fisheries and a measure outlined in the Chief Executive's 2026 Policy Address. The AFCD will continue to strengthen promotion of local leisure farming and fishing, actively explore suitable development models for Hong Kong, and help the industry upgrade and transform.
