Hong Kong customs seizes counterfeit hard drives worth HK$50 million, arrests six

Hong Kong customs officers conducted a special operation in Tuen Mun on Thursday, cracking down on a suspected counterfeit hard drive processing workshop and storage warehouse. They seized about 6,800 suspected counterfeit hard drives with an estimated market value of about HK$50 million and arrested six people, customs said the case is still under investigation and did not rule out further arrests.

Following an investigation and with the assistance of trademark owners, customs officers raided five industrial units in Tuen Mun on Thursday. They arrested five men and one woman, including five mainland Chinese nationals and one local resident, aged 31 to 59. A large quantity of suspected counterfeit hard drives, packaging materials and tools were seized at the scene.

In addition, customs officers found about 20,000 suspected second-hand hard drives awaiting processing inside the industrial units. They believe the arrested individuals had purchased large quantities of second-hand hard drives, removed the original labels, reformatted them, then affixed labels of various major brands and packaged them in anti-static bags for sale.

Customs said the operation targeted an illegal processing facility and storage warehouse involved in the production and distribution of counterfeit hard drives. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities said more people could be arrested as the case develops.
