Hong Kong can support mainland firms' global expansion, says TDC chairman
At the Beijing-Hong Kong economic forum, TDC chairman Paul Mak said Hong Kong's international platform can help mainland companies expand globally, citing the "Go Global" initiative and 50-plus overseas offices to reduce risks in BRI markets.
The 29th Beijing-Hong Kong Economic Co-operation研讨洽谈会 opened in Beijing on Wednesday, with Hong Kong Trade Development Council (TDC) chairman Paul Mak saying this year marks the start of the nation's "15th Five-Year Plan" and Hong Kong's first five-year plan. He described the country's development direction as Hong Kong's opportunity, urging the city to leverage its international platform to join Beijing and national enterprises in exploring global markets.
Mak described Hong Kong as one of the country's most international cities, able to provide comprehensive support for mainland companies going overseas. The TDC, as a core member of the SAR government's task force for mainland enterprises going global, launched the "Go Global" initiative this year. Through its network of more than 50 offices worldwide and Hong Kong's international professional services, the TDC helps mainland companies connect internationally, reduce risks, and open up Belt and Road Initiative markets including Asean, the Middle East and Central Asia.
Mak also noted the close economic and trade ties between Beijing and Hong Kong over the years. The TDC and the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission's Zhongguancun Administrative Committee continue this year to promote the construction of a Beijing-Hong Kong technology co-operation and innovation platform, facilitating the matching of innovation and technology resources between the two cities. The TDC looks forward to continuing to work with Beijing to leverage Hong Kong's international platform role and the TDC's global network to seize opportunities in the 15th Five-Year Plan period.
