Hong Kong art official congratulates Michelle Yeoh and Ann Hui on Busan film festival awards

Hong Kong's Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Ms Tse Sui-pui, has congratulated actress Michelle Yeoh and director Ann Hui on receiving awards at the Busan International Film Festival. Yeoh received the Asian Filmmaker of the Year award, while Hui was given the Camellia Award.

According to a government press release on 6 October 2026, the Asian Filmmaker of the Year award recognises individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the development of Asian film and culture. The Camellia Award highlights those who have significantly advanced the role of women in Asian cinema.

Ms Tse said she sincerely congratulated Yeoh and Hui on their achievements. She noted that both have had a profound and lasting influence on the Hong Kong and international film industries. She thanked them for their excellent contributions to Hong Kong cinema over decades of work, which helped promote Hong Kong films on the global stage.

To promote the Hong Kong film brand and help new local filmmakers expand into international markets, the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Office under the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau led an industry delegation to the film festival. The delegation included director Lam Lok-sin and actor Yeung Lok-man of the film 'The Day of the Killing', which was a winning entry from the seventh First Feature Film Scheme (University Category) funded by the Film Development Fund and selected for the 'A Window on Asian Cinema' competition section. The delegation also included film creators and original content copyright holders.

During the festival, the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Office will hold a 'Hong Kong Night' reception on 9 October (Busan time). The global premiere of 'The Day of the Killing' will take place on 10 October (Busan time), the press release said.
