The Airport Authority Hong Kong and Turkish Airlines signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on 3 November 2026 to strengthen air connectivity and develop cooperation, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government announced.
Transport and Logistics Bureau Director Mabel Chan, speaking at the signing ceremony, described the cooperation as a "strong alliance" between Hong Kong International Airport and Turkish Airlines. She noted that Turkish Airlines currently ranks first in tonnage usage at the Dongguan Air Cargo Centre of Hong Kong International Airport, demonstrating a solid foundation of bilateral cooperation.
Chan said the MOU would further promote close ties and expressed satisfaction that Turkish Airlines plans to deploy more aircraft in Hong Kong and introduce new cargo sources. She called Turkish Airlines' strategic decision to develop Hong Kong as its "second hub" a milestone.
The cooperation, Chan said, not only proves Turkish Airlines' absolute confidence in Hong Kong's economic vitality and efficient operations but also highlights Hong Kong's lasting advantages as the preferred gateway to mainland China and the Asia-Pacific region. She expressed hope that deeper cooperation would generate significant synergy and create win-win outcomes.
The Hong Kong SAR Government will continue to play its key roles as a "super connector" and "super value-adder", aiming to optimise global supply chains and open up new trade frontiers. The cooperation will leverage the efficient advantages of Hong Kong International Airport and connect with Turkish Airlines' network covering Europe, Africa and the Americas. By utilising Hong Kong's unique regional connectivity functions, the cooperation will further consolidate Hong Kong's position as an international aviation hub and the world's busiest cargo airport.
