Hong Kong Space Museum launches new 3D dome film 'Explore the Stars 3D'

The Hong Kong Space Museum has launched a new stereoscopic dome film, Explore the Stars 3D, which takes audiences on a journey through the past and future of astronomy with vivid, detailed imagery, the government announced on Thursday.

The film showcases how pioneering scientists reshaped humanity's understanding of the universe, gradually unravelling the mysteries of celestial motion. It covers the tracking of the relative positions of the Sun and the Moon along the ecliptic to predict solar and lunar eclipses, the shift from a geocentric to a heliocentric model, and the development of physical laws that help calculate spacecraft orbits.

These discoveries laid the foundation for modern space exploration and paved the way for humanity's ambition to land on Mars, according to the museum.

The programme runs for 28 minutes and will be screened until 14 July 2027. Weekday screenings are scheduled for 2pm and 6.30pm, while weekend and public holiday screenings take place at 12.30pm and 5pm.

Tickets are priced at HK$30 for front seats and HK$40 for rear seats. They are available at the Hong Kong Space Museum box office and through Urbtix (www.urbtix.hk). Details of the show can be found on the museum's website.

The Hong Kong Space Museum is located at 10 Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon. It is closed on Tuesdays except public holidays.
