Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Carnival 2026 to feature space zone
The Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Carnival 2026 will be held from 24 October to 1 November, featuring a dedicated space zone showcasing local universities' contributions to national space missions. The event will include around 150 workshops, online seminars, and free shuttle services.
The Innovation and Technology Carnival 2026 will take place from 24 October to 1 November, the Innovation and Technology Department announced on 5 October. During a media preview, Director of Innovation and Technology Lee Kwok-bun said this year's carnival will feature a 'Space Zone' highlighting local universities' research contributions to national space missions, aiming to inspire young people to pursue their dreams.
Lee noted that the zone was inspired by Hong Kong payload specialist Lai Ka-po's participation in a national crewed space mission in May this year, demonstrating that space dreams are achievable. Among the exhibits is the 'Tianyun Camera', a greenhouse gas detector developed by a Hong Kong University of Science and Technology team and operated by Lai aboard the Tiangong space station.
The Hong Kong Productivity Council will showcase the 'Ground-Air Collaborative Tunnel Automatic Inspection System', which uses artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and total station positioning technology. Applied to the T2 Trunk Road and Cha Kwo Ling Tunnel projects for quality inspection and maintenance, the system won a gold award at the 2025 Edison Awards.
Students from Po Leung Kuk Ho Yuk Tong College will present the 'Water Purifier – Automated AI Water Quality Monitoring Platform', a compact AI system integrating automated screening, data collection, and real-time environmental monitoring. The platform aims to improve water testing accuracy, efficiency, and accessibility, helping to identify and respond to pollution risks.
The carnival will feature about 150 innovation and technology workshops and over 10 online seminars covering topics including aerospace engineering and AI. All activities are free, but some require prior online registration starting from 10:30 am on 6 October via innocarnival.hk. Places are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Free shuttle bus services will operate between the Hong Kong Science Park and various locations, including University Station, Tai Wai Station, Kowloon Tong Station, Admiralty Station, and new stops at Yuen Long Station and Tseung Kwan O Station.
