Central's Lan Kwai Fong area was packed with people on the evening of 30 October 2026 as Halloween celebrations took place across multiple districts of Hong Kong. Several roads near Lan Kwai Fong were closed and turned into pedestrian-only zones, with one-way crowd control measures in place. Multiple police officers were on site maintaining order, urging the crowd to keep moving forward and not to stop in the same spot for long periods to take photos.
Many mainland Chinese tourists and local residents were dressed in a variety of costumes, joining the street party. A tourist from Dongguan said he had rushed to Hong Kong after finishing work in the evening to experience the Halloween atmosphere. He planned to stay in Hong Kong for one day, celebrating Halloween the following night before returning to the mainland via the Huanggang border checkpoint. He expressed confidence in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government's border crossing arrangements, saying he did not believe it would be very crowded at that time.
A mainland Chinese student studying in Hong Kong dressed as the God of Wealth attracted many people who took photos with him. The student said the God of Wealth is a traditional Chinese cultural element, and combining it with the Western festival of Halloween perfectly reflects Hong Kong's character as a meeting point of Chinese and Western cultures. He noted that the mainland does not have a strong Halloween atmosphere, while in Hong Kong everyone dresses up for the occasion, which he described as a very happy experience.
The scene at Lan Kwai Fong on Friday night was lively, with the area's bars and restaurants also drawing large numbers of revellers. The police presence and crowd management measures were aimed at ensuring safety during the popular Halloween street celebrations.
