Hong Kong Customs announced on 5 October that officers had seized about HK$100,000 worth of suspected controlled slimming injections at the Air Mail Centre on 2 October. During an inspection of a postal parcel arriving from Japan, officers found and confiscated 54 injections suspected to contain a Part I poison under the Pharmacy and Poisons Ordinance.

Following further investigation, officers conducted a controlled delivery operation on the same day and arrested a 30-year-old female recipient at a residential address in Tuen Mun. A further 80 suspected controlled slimming injections were seized at the scene.

The arrested person has been released on bail pending further investigation.

Under the Import and Export Ordinance, importing pharmaceutical products or medicines without a valid import permit is an offence punishable by a maximum fine of HK$500,000 and two years' imprisonment upon conviction. Under the Pharmacy and Poisons Ordinance, possessing a Part I poison without authorisation is an offence punishable by a maximum fine of HK$100,000 and two years' imprisonment upon conviction.

Customs urged members of the public to report suspected smuggling activities via its 24-hour hotline 182 8080, the dedicated email account [email protected], or the online form at eform.cefs.gov.hk/form/ced002.
