Heritage Fiesta to spotlight Northern Metropolis with open-top bus tours
Hong Kong's Heritage Fiesta will feature open-top bus tours in the Northern Metropolis for the first time, running on 21, 22 and 29 November. Three routes will cover Ping Shan, Ha Tsuen, Lung Yeuk Tau and San Tin, with audio guides in three languages.
Hong Kong's annual Heritage Fiesta will head to the Northern Metropolis this year, offering guided tours of 12 declared monuments and graded historic buildings. A new feature — open-top bus heritage tours — will run on 21, 22 and 29 November, with three dedicated routes covering Ping Shan and Ha Tsuen, Lung Yeuk Tau, and San Tin. Audio guides in Cantonese, Mandarin and English will be available on board.
Commissioner for Heritage David Leung Chee-kay said the Policy Address had set out a "Heritage + Tourism" direction, and expressed hope the event would introduce residents to the Northern Metropolis' deep cultural roots. Citing a strong response to previous editions, he said activities had drawn more than 180,000 visitors last year, reflecting growing public interest in heritage and culture.
The Northern Metropolis has 31 declared monuments, 341 historic buildings and the Ping Shan Heritage Trail. Leung said he was confident this year's turnout would be strong, and that the government would monitor demand and consider adding more open-top bus runs.
Each themed route will offer 15 departures across the designated dates. Reservations are capped at two tickets per applicant on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration opens at 10am on Friday and closes at 5pm the following Tuesday.
