The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, the largest earnings contributor to HSBC (stock code 0005), reported a 26.6 per cent year-on-year increase in pre-tax profit to US$18.78 billion (HK$146.48 billion) for the first nine months of 2026. This accounted for 64.65 per cent of the group's total profit, according to the bank's latest financial results.

Revenue for the period rose 13.88 per cent to US$30.16 billion. In the third quarter alone, the unit's pre-tax profit grew 7.98 per cent to US$5.89 billion.

HSBC's broader Hong Kong business segment also performed strongly, with pre-tax profit rising 11.57 per cent to US$7.7 billion (HK$60.06 billion) in the first three quarters. On a constant currency basis, this represented more than 26.4 per cent of the group's total profit. Revenue for the segment increased 6.07 per cent to US$12.23 billion.

The bank also noted a 32 per cent narrowing in expected credit losses to US$788 million during the period, driven by lower charges linked to the city's commercial real estate sector.
