HK’s Lantau Conservation Fund approves 10 projects for 2025-26

Hong Kong’s Lantau Conservation Fund has approved 10 projects for the 2025-26 financial year, comprising five research projects and five education and participation projects, the government announced on 30 October.

The approved projects cover topics including the human history and natural ecology of Tai O, the development history of Pui O, Lantau’s coastal ecology, insect biodiversity and rare animal conservation.

The fund, which has a total endowment of HK$1 billion, aims to promote conservation and related initiatives on Lantau Island, enhance community conservation awareness and encourage public participation in creating a sustainable, high-quality living environment, the government said.

It provides funding to eligible organisations and tertiary education institutions to carry out research projects, education and participation projects, or to collaborate with local residents and landowners on conservation initiatives. The fund also supports small-scale local improvement works related to conservation.

Since its establishment in 2020, the fund has granted a total of more than HK$179 million to 69 conservation and related projects.

A new round of applications will open at the end of this year. Details of the fund, approved projects, activity schedules and the next application round are available on the fund’s website (www.lcf.gov.hk), the Sustainable Lantau Facebook page (www.facebook.com/lantauhk) and Instagram page (www.instagram.com/ourlantau), or by calling 2153 2739.
