HK restaurant manager arrested for staging robbery to steal HK$11,000
A 22-year-old restaurant manager in Hong Kong was arrested after police uncovered she staged a robbery with a male friend to embezzle HK$11,000 from her employer. The pair were caught on CCTV handing over the cash, and the accomplice remains at large.
A 22-year-old female restaurant manager in Hong Kong has been arrested on suspicion of staging a robbery to embezzle HK$11,000 from her employer, police said on Saturday, 17 October. The incident took place at Telford Plaza in Amoy Gardens, Ngau Tau Kok, on the evening of Friday, 16 October.
The suspect, surnamed Wong, initially claimed that around 11:00pm she had taken HK$11,000 in cash from the restaurant's register to deposit into the company's bank account via an ATM at Amoy Plaza Phase 2. She told police that a male stranger had pushed her from behind in a shopping mall stairwell and stolen the cash during a scuffle.
However, after reviewing surveillance footage from the shopping mall and surrounding areas, officers identified significant inconsistencies in her story. Further investigation revealed that the supposed robber was actually a 21-year-old male acquaintance, surnamed Fung.
CCTV footage showed that the pair had pre-arranged to meet at the location, where Wong handed over the HK$11,000 directly to Fung, who then left the scene.
Police arrested Wong on charges of misleading a police officer and conspiracy to defraud. The case has been handed over to the Fourth Team of the Kwun Tong District Crime Investigation Team, which is actively pursuing the at-large 21-year-old male accomplice.
