HK Electric cuts November fuel adjustment charge, net tariff down 2.2 per cent

Hong Kong Electric (HK Electric) has announced a reduction in its fuel adjustment charge for November, leading to a 2.2 per cent decrease in the average net electricity tariff compared with October. The company said the November fuel adjustment charge will be 55.1 HK cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh), down 4.2 cents from the previous month. Combined with the basic electricity charge, the average net tariff for November will be 183 HK cents per kWh.

According to the company, the monthly fuel adjustment mechanism is subject to a “deferral effect”, meaning the November charge primarily reflects fuel costs incurred between July and September 2026. The adjustment is intended to pass on changes in international fuel prices to consumers in a phased manner.

A spokesperson for HK Electric said that international oil and natural gas prices remain volatile, and that future fuel adjustment charges will depend on the trend of global fuel prices. The company said it will continue to closely monitor international energy market movements and adopt prudent procurement strategies to ensure stable fuel supply and compliance with emission caps, while minimising the impact of fuel price fluctuations on customers.

The announcement comes as households and businesses in Hong Kong face ongoing energy cost pressures amid global market uncertainty. HK Electric’s adjustment offers some relief to consumers ahead of the winter season, though the company cautioned that further changes may occur depending on international price movements.
