Hong Kong Premier League club Sha Tin has announced the signing of former Spain international David Silva, the team said on social media on 8 October.

The club said Silva would undergo a physical test in mid-October before formally arriving in Hong Kong. Sha Tin will first arrange for him to train to ensure he is match-fit, and will assess his condition after one match before deciding on further playing arrangements.

Silva, 40, released a video message through the club expressing his delight at joining. He said he was looking forward to travelling to Hong Kong, experiencing the local culture, exploring Sha Tin's lifestyle and cuisine, and of course playing football in the city.

Silva previously played for top clubs including Valencia, Manchester City and Real Sociedad. He helped Spain win the 2010 World Cup and the 2008 and 2012 European Championships, making 125 appearances and scoring 35 goals for his country. He retired from playing in 2023 due to injury.
