Electoral officials inspect central counting station training for 2026 election

Hong Kong's Electoral Affairs Commission (EAC) on 3 November inspected a briefing session for supervisory staff of the central counting station for the 2026 Election Committee subsector general election, according to a government press release. The election is scheduled for 22 November.

The inspection was conducted by EAC chairman Justice Robert Luk, committee member Professor Daniel Shek, and committee member Mr Michael Thomas, senior counsel. The briefing was organised by the Registration and Electoral Office for staff who will oversee operations at the central counting station on polling day.

The briefing aims to strengthen attendees' understanding of the entire vote-counting process and workflow between various work areas, the release said. It also allowed staff to review and practise contingency plans for different scenarios, enabling them to lead their teams more effectively in handling exceptional situations and ensuring the counting process is completed accurately and efficiently.

Justice Luk said the briefing helps supervisory staff familiarise themselves with key steps in the counting process and methods for handling unexpected incidents. He expressed gratitude for the staff's efforts and dedication to ensuring the counting is conducted in an open, honest and fair manner.

A total of five general polling stations have been set up for the election. After polling ends, all ballot boxes will be transported to the central counting station at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre for vote counting. The Registration and Electoral Office will continue to arrange on-site rehearsals and simulation drills for counting staff to improve their coordination and response capabilities, ensuring thorough preparation for the election.
