An 81-year-old man was found dead and his 73-year-old wife was hospitalised after police broke into their flat in Cheung Sha Wan on Tuesday afternoon, according to The Standard.

Police received a report from a security guard at One Madison on Castle Peak Road around 5pm that a foul smell was coming from a unit upstairs and the residents had been out of contact for some time.

Firefighters broke into the flat and found the man unconscious in the bathroom. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife was later found lying on the kitchen floor and was taken to Caritas Medical Centre semi-conscious.

The couple were married. The man, surnamed Ng, had diabetes, kidney disease and heart disease, while his wife, surnamed Wong, has dementia. No suicide note was found. The cause of death is pending a post-mortem examination.
