Dashcam shows taxi rear-ending car on North Lantau Highway

A three-vehicle crash on the North Lantau Highway was caught on dashcam, showing a taxi failing to slow in time for traffic ahead and hitting a stopped private car, severely damaging its front end.

Police received a report around 8am on Thursday of an accident on the Lantau Link involving two private cars and a taxi. Officers attended and confirmed no one was injured. The cause is under investigation.

The footage showed vehicles travelling in the fast lane towards North Lantau. Traffic ahead slowed due to congestion, and one private car stopped. The following taxi did not stop in time and hit the car's rear, buckling its bonnet and damaging the bumper and front components. A white private car behind braked and swerved into the middle lane to avoid the crash.

The video sparked discussion online, with netizens questioning whether the taxi driver was paying enough attention and keeping a safe distance. One comment noted that on a highway, whether the car behind can react in time is as critical as one's own braking.
