16 private properties win top garden awards in Hong Kong

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government presented the Best Garden Landscape Awards to 16 private properties at a ceremony on 7 October 2026. The biennial competition, a key LCSD greening initiative, received 220 nominations this year.

LCSD Director Chan Wing-man said at the award ceremony that each winning project had been designed according to local conditions, using plant forms and colours flexibly to complement the terrain. This allowed buildings and living spaces to blend naturally with the environment and improve the surrounding landscape, she added.

Chan also noted that LCSD is creating "themed flower and plant zones" across all 18 districts of Hong Kong, using themed planting concepts to create colourful floral displays that attract both residents and tourists. The public zones complement the greening of private properties, working together to create a lush and pleasant home for the city's residents.

Besides the grand prize and 16 gold awards, the ceremony also presented 36 merit awards and 14 environmental benefit awards. These recognise organisations that have performed outstandingly in greening and help raise public awareness of environmental protection. A full list of winning properties is available on the LCSD website at www.lcsd.gov.hk/tc/green/property/2026/awards.html.

The ceremony was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Other officiating guests included representatives from co-organising bodies: Dr Edwin Chan, President of the Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects; Ho-fen Tsui, President of the Hong Kong Institute of Horticulture; Professor Patrick Yuen, Chairman of the Professional Building Council; Dr Tin-cheung Cheung, Chairman of the Hong Kong Green Building Council; Chu Kai-ming, President of the Hong Kong Property Management Association Company Limited; Ka-fai Kam, Senior Vice President of the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors; and Ching-kong Tung, Council Member of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects.
