Macau to unveil 2027 policy address on 16 December; residents hope for cash handouts, lawmakers urge distinct advantages

Macau Chief Executive Sam Hou-fai will deliver the 2027 policy address and budget to the Legislative Assembly on 16 December, according to RTHK. Many residents and operators of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises are hoping the government will continue measures such as cash handouts, medical vouchers and consumption vouchers to boost the economy.

Leong Son-iok, a directly elected lawmaker and permanent deputy chair of the Macau Federation of Trade Unions, said he is concerned about how the government will protect local employment. He also said the government should consider advancing the integration of Macau and Hengqin, and how resources invested in Hengqin can return dividends to the special administrative region's finances, achieving co-construction and sharing.

Chau Ka-chun, a lawmaker appointed to the Legislative Assembly who works in the technology sector, said Macau has its own advantages in developing high-tech industries, specialty finance and traditional Chinese medicine and big health as emerging sectors. However, he stressed the need to highlight differences with Hong Kong and mainland China to avoid turning its advantages into mere slogans. He added that the government should live within its means and use public money to help those who truly need it.
