Hong Kong opens cross-border tech funding for 2026/27
Hong Kong's Innovation and Technology Bureau has launched applications for the 2026/27 Mainland-Hong Kong Technology Collaboration Funding Scheme, focusing on frontier tech and strategic industries to boost Greater Bay Area innovation.
Hong Kong's Innovation and Technology Bureau (ITB) announced on 7 October that applications are now open for the 2026/27 Mainland-Hong Kong Technology Collaboration Funding Scheme (MHTCFS), covering Guangdong-Hong Kong and Shenzhen-Hong Kong joint funding projects.
The scheme aims to encourage research collaboration between universities, research institutions and technology enterprises in Hong Kong and the mainland. All applications must address specified themes and be submitted jointly by Hong Kong and mainland institutions to the ITB and the relevant mainland authorities.
An ITB spokesman said the call for proposals aligns with the national 15th Five-Year Plan and the Hong Kong government's first Five-Year Plan, focusing on frontier technology fields and strategic emerging industries to facilitate the flow of technology resources and deepen industry-academia-research collaboration in the Greater Bay Area.
The scheme comprises three categories: Mainland-Hong Kong joint funding projects (solicited jointly with the Ministry of Science and Technology), Guangdong-Hong Kong joint funding projects (with the Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology), and Shenzhen-Hong Kong joint funding projects (with the Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Bureau). Details for the mainland-Hong Kong category will be announced later.
