Hong Kong minister aims to boost efficiency of panel aiding mainland firms' overseas expansion

Hong Kong's Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr. Chung Ying-ka, said the “Mainland Enterprises Going Overseas Task Force” has helped more than 360 mainland firms establish or expand their businesses in the city since its launch in October 2025. He expressed hope that the task force's work can be further strengthened to improve the efficiency and precision of professional service matching.

Speaking at the 2026 Hong Kong Fintech Week, Mr. Chung noted that the government is strengthening international ties and deepening economic and trade cooperation with the mainland. He said authorities are actively seeking early accession to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), and with the formal establishment of the “Accession Working Group” in September, which initiated the accession process for Hong Kong and other applicant economies, the city will participate actively.

Mr. Chung also said that while strengthening international links, the SAR government is deepening economic and trade cooperation with the mainland. Authorities are pushing forward upgrades to the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA) with the mainland, aiming to deepen cooperation in the services sector and further expand market access into the mainland. He welcomed overseas investors to use CEPA to enter the mainland market via Hong Kong.
