Hong Kong civil service team holds career talks at Guangdong, Fujian universities

Hong Kong's Civil Service Bureau has taken a delegation to universities in Guangdong and Fujian provinces to promote careers in the city's government. The bureau's Commissioner, Mr Chan Chi-sing, on 27 October addressed a career talk at Jinan University in Guangzhou, calling on Hong Kong students who aspire to serve society to prepare early and join the civil service to contribute to the development of the nation and Hong Kong.

The outreach is part of a broader drive under the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's first five-year plan for economic and social development (2026–2030), which calls for building an efficient government through active recruitment and publicity to encourage ambitious and committed talent to join.

Over the past three years, the Civil Service Bureau has sent staff to multiple mainland universities and Hong Kong SAR Government offices there to introduce various employment opportunities to Hong Kong students and residents living on the mainland. The bureau said these efforts have shown results, with a steady increase in the number of Hong Kong graduates from mainland universities applying for civil service jobs.

The career talks covered the duties and career prospects of several job series, including education officers, liaison officers, systems analysts/programmers, computer operators, executive officers and other general grades. Information booths at the events allowed students to speak directly with representatives from different departments to gain practical experience. Students could also take part in simulated skills tests or mock interviews and receive on-the-spot evaluations and guidance.

The Civil Service Bureau noted that details on recruitment, job vacancies and the latest examination arrangements are available on its website.
