Hong Kong Lures 18 New Firms, Total Investment Nears HK$84 Billion

Hong Kong’s Office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises (OASE) has brought in another 18 companies, covering advanced manufacturing and new energy, artificial intelligence, life and health technology, and financial technology, the government announced on 22 October.

Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po, speaking at a signing ceremony, said half of the new batch are from mainland China and the other half from around the world, demonstrating that Hong Kong is a place where enterprises, talent and ideas from different places come together to develop.

With these latest additions, a total of 142 firms recruited by OASE will drive an estimated HK$84 billion (about US$10.8 billion) in investment and create around 27,000 jobs, Chan added.

Chan also noted that the Northern Territories is building three university towns, which he said would help integrate education, research, talent cultivation and industrial development more closely. He highlighted efforts to strengthen links within the Greater Bay Area, aiming to facilitate smoother cross-border flows of people, goods, capital and data.

The Financial Secretary expressed hope that the incoming enterprises would develop their businesses, conduct research, nurture talent in Hong Kong, and use the city as a springboard to take their innovations further afield.
