Chief Executive John Lee on Friday praised the Hong Kong China Enterprises Association for its 35 years of service, saying the city's first five-year plan will help mainland firms go global. Speaking at the association's anniversary reception, Lee said the plan, unveiled last month, aims to align Hong Kong with the nation's 15th Five-Year Plan and enhance its role as an international financial, shipping, and trade hub.
Lee noted that the plan seeks to strengthen Hong Kong's position as a global offshore platform, providing one-stop, high-value professional services for mainland enterprises expanding overseas. He emphasized Hong Kong's advantages under "one country, two systems," including its common law tradition, simple tax system, and free flow of capital, goods, people, and information.
Amid global geopolitical complexities, Lee said Hong Kong offers a stable, secure, and predictable business environment. He highlighted the "Mainland Enterprise Going Global Task Force," established in October last year, which has assisted over 340 mainland companies with listing, financing, and compliance matters in Hong Kong.
In this year's Policy Address, Lee proposed four measures to strengthen the task force, including deepening cooperation with industry associations, enhancing professional training, expanding the cross-sector platform to include ESG services, and improving matchmaking functions. He also mentioned Hong Kong's recent investment agreement with Bangladesh and ongoing negotiations with Qatar and Peru.
Lee commended the association, which represents over 1,300 mainland enterprises in Hong Kong, for its role in promoting economic cooperation. He expressed confidence in the association's continued contributions to Hong Kong's prosperity and the nation's development.
