China urges US-Iran talks to avert new military strikes
China's UN envoy Fu Cong expressed concern over escalating tensions in the Middle East, citing talk of potential new military strikes on Iran. He called on all parties to advance dialogue and negotiations as the US and Iran remain deadlocked.
China's permanent representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, has expressed deep concern over escalating tensions in the Middle East, warning that talk of potential new military strikes on Iran is raising the risk of conflict.
Speaking at a UN Security Council open meeting on the Iranian nuclear issue on 28 October, Fu said negotiations between the United States and Iran had reached an impasse. He stressed that all parties should work to prevent war and promote dialogue.
The Chinese envoy noted that the situation in the Middle East remained tense, with spillover effects spreading and seriously affecting regional and global peace and stability. He described the Iranian nuclear issue as one of the points of contention between the US and Iran, saying it had been brought to the negotiating table several times but opportunities had repeatedly been missed.
Fu called on all sides to learn from history, uphold genuine multilateralism and remain committed to a political solution. He urged parties to advance efforts to stop the war and restart talks, and to revive diplomatic efforts.
