Fifteen Miners Trapped in Flooded Coal Mine

Fifteen miners are currently trapped in a flooded coalmine in Shangli County in Jiangxi province. The flooding occurred yesterday in a licensed coalmine located in Chishan Township. Sixteen miners were working in the shaft when the flooding occured; one miner managed to escape while 15 others remain trapped.

Senior local officials have rushed to the accident site to lead the rescue effort. However, limited drainage capacity has hampered rescue work.

According to local government sources, all the trapped miners are local farmers.The rescue operation is still underway.
