Chinese President Xi Jinping and Belgian King Philippe exchanged congratulatory letters on 25 October to mark the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Belgium, state news agency Xinhua reported.

In his letter, Xi said that over the past 55 years, China and Belgium have adhered to mutual respect, equal treatment and mutual benefit, leading to steady development of bilateral ties. He noted that the two countries have achieved fruitful results in exchanges and cooperation across various fields, and people-to-people contacts have become increasingly close.

Xi expressed his willingness to work with King Philippe to elevate the China-Belgium comprehensive friendly partnership of cooperation to new heights, and to make new contributions to the healthy and stable development of China-EU relations.

King Philippe said in his letter that since the establishment of diplomatic ties, Belgium and China have built a broad and diversified partnership. He expressed confidence that the two sides would continue to promote open dialogue, expand practical cooperation and enhance mutual understanding on the basis of what has been achieved over the past 55 years.

The Belgian side, he added, is willing to develop a balanced and mutually beneficial relationship with China, address common global challenges, and promote peace, stability and sustainable development.
