Wang Yi meets Lavrov, says APEC 'China Year' will yield results
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov that next month's APEC summit in Shenzhen will achieve fruitful outcomes with Russia's support. Lavrov expressed full backing for China's APEC hosting and closer coordination in multilateral forums.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Baku on 15 October, state media reported. Wang, a member of the Communist Party politburo, said next month's Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) informal leaders' meeting in Shenzhen would yield rich results, according to Xinhua News Agency.
Wang said that with support from Russia and other parties, APEC's 'China Year' would help revitalise the historical process of building an Asia-Pacific community and inject strong momentum into regional development cooperation.
The Chinese foreign minister also noted that the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) summit was being held again after four years. Wang said China was ready to work closely with Russia and other CICA members to practise genuine multilateralism and contribute to improving global governance.
Lavrov said Russia fully supported China in hosting the APEC informal leaders' meeting, Xinhua reported. The Russian foreign minister added that Moscow and Beijing held similar positions on international affairs and that Russia was willing to further strengthen coordination with China in multilateral frameworks including the United Nations, the G20, APEC and the BRICS mechanism, in order to jointly uphold international fairness and justice.
