Tibet county launches disease prevention work after earthquake

Authorities in Baqen County, Tibet, have launched a full-scale epidemic prevention and public health campaign in areas affected by a recent earthquake, state news agency Xinhua reported on 25 October.

Citing the Nagqu City Earthquake Relief Headquarters, Xinhua said disease control emergency teams have begun infectious disease monitoring, environmental disinfection and drinking water safety testing across the quake zone to prevent secondary public health risks.

The teams are conducting health checks on more than 3,600 people living in 35 temporary shelter centres. Medical staff are prioritising screening for common post-disaster illnesses such as respiratory infections and digestive system diseases.

A total of 44 disinfection workers have been deployed for routine environmental cleaning, focusing on public areas, latrines and waste disposal sites that are prone to bacterial growth and contamination.

Officials said the measures were designed to prevent outbreaks and the spread of communicable diseases in the aftermath of the disaster.
